One day, your iPhone might be able to identify you by touch.  Apple is making a play to buy a company called AuthenTec which specializes in biometric software and fingerprint sensors.

The deal is far from done, but it's interesting to consider the possibilities.  Authentec says its systems are capable of discerning the differences and remembering all five of your fingers.  That means one day your iPhone might not require a password to unlock, in fact, you won't need to remember passwords at all.  You'd only have to remember which finger to use for which function.

For example, your thumb could be used to unlock your device.  Your forefinger might be used to launch PayPal or some other mobile payment system, and I'm sure we could come up with a creative application for our middle fingers too.
