Dr. Donna Campbell wins by huge margin
Jeff Wentworth admits that he never saw it coming. Tea Party favorite Donna Campbell, who has never before held elective office, clobbered Wentworth for the Republican nomination for the State Senate, a nomination which is tantamount to victory in November, 1200 WOAI news reports.
“It looks like we’re going to have a new Senator from District 25 come January of next year,” Wentworth told 1200 WOAI news.
Campbell, who is an emergency room physician, won largely on the basis of support from Tea Party conservative Republicans, many of whom came out to vote for Ted Cruz for U.S. Senate, and stayed to mark their ballot for her as well.
Anti toll road activists also claimed a share of the credit. Terri Hall of Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom points out that Wentworth sits on the Metropolitan Planning Organization board, and voted for that shady proposal to build toll roads and discredited ‘High Occupancy Vehicle’ lanes on Loop 1604 and 281, in a back door vote which is being challenged in court.
“This is the first opportunity for our supporters to make an example out of the board members who recently voted to tell existing lanes at the MPO on June 25,” Hall said. “There was a ton of enthusiasm behind Dr. Campbell. She’s just what we need to shake up Austin to get a pro taxpayer transportation policy in place in Texas.”
