SA named 11th 'coolest' city in USA, cooler than Austin, Chicago

San Antonio has been named the 11th 'coolest' city in the USA by Forbes Magazine, and, as you might expect, the designation has nothing to do with the weather.

The nation's 65 largest metro areas were ranked on coolness, defined by Webster's dictionary as 'very good, fashionable.'

Among the factors taken into consideration were things like trendy restaurants, with emphasis given to local eateries instead of national chains.  Other factors included a vibrant night life, recreational activities including outdoor green space and parks, the cost and number of golf courses, college and pro sports teams, and attractions like museums.

It also took into consideration population figures like jobs and the unemployment rate, and the income of the population, and the diversity of the population.

San Antonio is cooler than absolutely self-possessed hip cities like Austin and Denver, we are also cooler than Chicago.

San Antonio is also cooler than Ft. Worth, but not as cool as Dallas.  The magazine says Texas is cool due largely to the state's young population, and the fact that the economy is doing well, giving residents the cash in the pocket you need to be really really cool.  It's also cool to be a growing city, it is absolutely not cool to be a city that people are leaving.

But before you read too much into it, the coolest city in the nation--according to Forbes...is Houston.
