A one year old boy on San Antonio's northeast side has been killed when a television set fell on him as he was playing on a dresser in his home, 1200 WOAI news reports.

San Antonio Police Sergeant Javier Salazar says it happened on Hillside Ridge, which is off Toepperwein Road.

He says the toddler was in a room watching television with his sister and brother when he pulled out the bottom drawer of the dresser the television was on, in an apparent attempt to climb onto the dresser.

"Apparently there was a TV, a large TV on top of the dresser," he said.  "The whole thing came crashing down on top of the baby.  It caused some substantial injuries, the baby died as a result."

A police report says the mother was in another room on a computer, and the father was in the backyard smoking when they heard a huge crash.  They ran in and found their son with a huge gash on his head, underneath a 32 inch old style tube television.

"It's being handled as an accidental death," he said.  "Obviously we're not ruling anything out at this point."

Child Protective Services is also investigating.
