Tipsy Tow program will be in place
Did you know that the Fourth of July is the single deadliest day in the entire year for drunk driving related accidents? 1200 WOAI's Michael Board reports that several steps are being taken to make sure drunks stay off the road in this area, including the return of the Triple A 'Tipsy Tow' program.
"The biggest reason we hear why people drive when they know they are too drunk to be behind the wheel is they don't want to leave their car behind," said Doug Shupe of TripleA Texas. "They are afraid it will get towed or vandalized or whatever."
So Triple A will have a program in place on Wednesday that is similar to programs which have been effective in cutting down on drunk driving accidents and arrests.
He says the Triple A will send a driver to take you home, and a tow truck to take your car home. The program will not take you to another bar or party or Fourth of July event, only to your home or to a hotel where you are staying. And Shupe says it should not be your firstr option.
"But then if you do get into a situation where you do need a ride and the tow home, the Tipsy Tow program will be there for you.
Tipsy Tow kicks in tonight and runs through Wednesday night.
