only city in Texas to earn 2012 designation
San Antonio today was named an All America City, one of 14 municipalities in the country, and the only one in Texas, to achieve that designation, 1200 WOAI news reports.
The designation comes from the National Civic League, which honors 14 cities each year based on their ability to find solutions to a major pressing municipal problem...in this case....how to teach at risk third graders to read.
"We were overwhelmed by the quality, passion, and thoughtfulness of the action plans submitted by over one hundred cities, towns, and regions," said National Civic League President Gloria Rubio-Cortes.
The tactics developed by San Antonio and the other communities will be used as models to tackle the problem.
Other All America Cities including San Francisco, Seattle, Tahoe California, and Marshalltown, Iowa.
