gives Roadrunners a chance to appear in a BCS bowl

It's official...after months of negotiations, the University of Texas at San Antonio...and Texas State University...over the weekend officially signed the agreement to join the Western Athletic Conference, 1200 WOAI news reports.

All of UTSA's sports teams will join the WAC, with the basketball team leaving the Southland Conference after a 21 year run.

The move gives UTSA a far higher football profile, and gives the Roadrunners football team a shot at an invitation to a BCS bowl game.  Three WAC squads have gone to BCS bowls in the past five seasons.

A total of 43 WAC football teams have been invited to bowl games, more than half of WAC squads were invited to bowl games following the 2008 season.

UTSA and Texas State join the University of Denver, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, the University of Seattle, Utah State and the University of Texas at Arlington in the WAC.

The move comes amid a major reshuffling of conferences, including the move of Texas A&M to the Southeastern Conference.
