say Obama would be better equipped to welcome ET to Earth

While it's not likely to come up during the Presidential debates, 65% of American's believe President Barack Obama is better suited to handle a possible alien invasion than Republican challenger Mitt Romney. That's according to a new poll by Kelton Research. The poll also found that more than 80 million Americans are certain that UFOs exist.

Steve Hudgeons is Texas director of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) which investigates reports of UFO sightings. He says they've seen a huge increase in sightings since just 2006 when they got about ten reports a year. "Now we're averaging 600 a year easily for Texas alone."

The Kelton poll says 11% of Americans are confident they have spotted a UFO. Hudgeons believes many of the sightings can be debunked as aircraft, satellites or flairs. "There are 2500 to 3000 different kinds of flairs," he says, but "75% of them are classified as unknown because we just have no idea what they are."

He believes a lot of the reports can be attributed to military operations and things like that, but he can't account for the dramatic increase in reported sightings. "What kind of technological advancement did we have, because something happend. We have a lot of things going on here," he says, "but you never know."

The poll also found that the majority of Americans would not mind a minor alien invasion... because they expect visitors from another world to be friendly.
