Local psychiatrist says Dad is a target, because Mom is off limits.

Homer Simpson, Peter of The Family Guy and Fred Flintstone are just a few
of our TV dads that creators made not just comical but often as total
idiots.

"There is affection for them and there should be because that is the way that they are portrayed; they are portrayed in a way to make them affectionate,"
says San Antonio psychiatrist Harry Croft, M.D.

But why do we make fun of dad?

Croft says it might be because father's can take it.

"It certainly is true that we gang up on fathers more than we gang up on mothers."

"Not mothers because we want to see mothers in a light that is more effective in terms of raising kids."

After all, dad is the one roughhoused with us, helped us feed brussel
sprouts to the dog under the dinner table and has always been the guy who can take a joke.

Doh!
