Better Business Bureau warning against popular apps.

Checking in on Four Square and Facebook may tip off burglars. Kristi Pena, with the San Antonio office of the Better Business Bureau's using those apps to let your friends know your whereabouts can be dangerous.

"Most of us are checking in at almost every location that we go to but the downside of that is that thieves, burglars and stalkers are also paying attention to the same thing."

Pena says there are some serious downsides to advertising your schedule online.

"Now you are an open book and let's say you are not the one who is posting but maybe your kids are so maybe it's your children who have already posted your address," warns Pena.

The police also have reservations about those services.

"They advise against posting your location while you are out; they advise doing it when you are back in."

That includes posting pictures of your family vacation which let thieves know your house is vacant.
