looking for an edge in competitive job market
Botox treatments are going coed.
Local dermatologists say more and more men are coming in for Botox treatments. They say men want to lose the wrinkles to gain an edge in the increasingly competitive job market. They say the increasing popularity of business teleconferencing, when people hold meetings by Skype or other on line services rather than in person, is also contributing to the growth of what is called 'Bro-tox.'
"Its funny, because it just shows that Botox is used by lots of different people, and men as well," local dermatologist Dr. Bahar Firoz told 1200 WOAI's Berit Mason.
Botox is generally used to eliminate so called 'frown lines' between the eyebrows. It is injected directly into the skin and has a temporary benefit. Botox is generally used by women, and it is recommended for people under the age of 65 only.
"We saw a lot in the last year or so, if they're looking for jobs and want to look younger, or look better for interviews," said Dr. Firoz, who is with the U.T. Health Science Center.
She says male patients are also opting for wrinkle smoothers, laser treatments, and derma fillers for the same reasons.
