Social networking site now encouraging users to become donors.
The Texas Organ Sharing Alliance is hopeful the numbers of registered donors will jump thanks to an effort launched by Facebook.
Facebook is prompting users to become donors and to share their decision with their friends. Mela Perez, with the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance in San Antonio says the help is badly needed.
"11,000 people here in Texas all waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant so we are so proud that someone stepped up to the plate," says Perez.
She says from their Facebook Timeline users will be able to link to the state registry of organ donation and also tell their friends that they've volunteered.
"When you go into your 'timeline' you will go to your FB account and then you will click on a link that ties you to your state registry."
Texas will benefit from the plug.
"Having a state that is huge in numbers of population really has only
2.3 million people registered so we have a ways to go."
She says having Facebook support will significantly boost those numbers and they're thankful the web giant is stepping up to the plate.
