Construction is underway on a military base camp for National Guard soldiers in Eagle Pass, near the Texas-Mexico border. The state hired a New Braunfels-based company in February to build the base in a former RV park on the Rio Grande. The base is expected to house about 1,800 Texas National Guard troops as part of Gov. Greg Abbott 's border security initiative, known as Operation Lone Star. The facility could cost more than $400 million.
