A civilian employee at Fort Sam Houston is accused of stealing $100 million from the U.S. Army. Federal prosecutors say 57-year-old Janet Mello made her first court appearance on Thursday. Mello reportedly controlled an entity that she falsely claimed would provide services to military members and their families. She received grant money to provide the services, but is accused of spending it on luxuries. Mello is charged with mail fraud, ID theft, and engaging in monetary transactions using criminally derived proceeds.
