San Antonio Warns Of Possible Rolling Power Outages

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg warned of possible rolling power outages tonight. "The demand for energy across all of Texas is outpacing the state’s generation capacity. In load shed events, all ERCOT members must participate in rolling power outages," said Mayor Nirenberg. "I want to be very clear that this is a statewide issue and not a result of generation issues with CPS Energy."

The operator of the Texas power grid is asking homeowners to voluntarily cut back on energy use. A "weather watch" was already issued for today, warning about a tight window between supply and demand. The Electric Reliability Council singled out the extreme heat and low wind-power generation for the tight grid conditions. More calls for conservation are expected this weekend.
