Austin Suspends Partnership With DPS

The City of Austin is suspending its partnership with the Texas Department of Public Safety. Mayor Kirk Watson made the announcement on Wednesday. Watson says he made the decision after a trooper aimed a gun at a ten-year-old during a traffic stop on Sunday. Another state trooper shot a man in the arm at the end of a car chase. The partnership started in March in response to Austin Police staffing shortages, but was temporarily paused so troopers could assist with security at the southern border. It was restarted earlier this month.
