Dozens Dead In Tornado Outbreak

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says the tornado death toll in the state could exceed 50 people. Severe weather tore through western Kentucky late Friday, causing damage across several counties. Governor Beshear gave a news conference early Saturday, and said loss of life is expected, and that it's going to be "the worst tornado damage we've seen in a long time." Beshear said a single tornado ripped across Kentucky for over 200 miles, and did extensive damage in the town of Mayfield. He's advising Kentucky residents to stay off the roads and let emergency crews respond.

At least two people are dead after an Amazon warehouse in Illinois was hit by an apparent tornado. In a news conference this morning, Edwardsville Police Chief Michael Fillback said several dozen workers were able to escape on their own after the roof collapsed. ABC News says officials have confirmed at least two fatalities. Search and rescue operations are combing through the rubble for more possible victims.

Everyone is accounted for after an Arkansas nursing home about 60 miles outside Memphis collapsed because of a tornado. CNN reports Monette's mayor Bob Blankenship says all of the around 20 people trapped have been removed. So far, one person is dead, five people are seriously injured.

President Biden is responding to the devastating tornadoes that ripped across the central U.S. Friday night. Biden said that losing a loved one to a storm like this was an 'unimaginable tragedy' in a tweet posted this morning. The President also confirmed that the administration is working with local governors to ensure they have what they need as the search for survivors and damage assessments continue.
