The mother of a murdered Trinity cheerleader is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the university and the suspect. Cayley Mandadi died from blunt force trauma in 2017 during a trip to Houston. Her boyfriend Mark Howerton was charged with murder and aggravated sexual assault in a case that ended as a mistrial. Mandadi's mother Alison Steele says her daughter's death may have been prevented if the university intervened on her behalf in the weeks leading up to her being killed. The lawsuit claims that Trinity ignored alleged abuse by Howerton that ultimately resulted in Mandadi's death.
