Officials at JBSA are reporting the shooting death of a drill sergeant assigned to Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. Sergeant Jessica Mitchell was a dental specialist with the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence. Officers responded early on New Year's Day to a reported shooting on I-10 near West Avenue. Mitchell had been shot several times, and was pronounced dead at University Hospital at about 3 a.m. She was on holiday leave at the time of her death. Police and the Army's Criminal Investigation Division are investigating.
