Harris Commissioners Approve Building Temporary Hospital At NRG Park

A temporary hospital is under construction at NRG Park to help relieve hospital overcrowding during the coronavirus outbreak, if necessary. Harris County Commissioners on Tuesday approved 60-million-dollars to fund the 250-bed hospital in the arena's parking lot for 60-days. The federal government will reimburse the county nearly 75-percent of the cost through FEMA. Harris County taxpayers will pick up the rest, even if the hospital isn't used. Mayor Sylvester Turner said Monday that local hospitals still have plenty of beds open.
