San Antonio Police Officer Shoots, Kills Suspect

A San Antonio police officer shot and killed a man this afternoon after the man threatened the officer with a pickaxe.

It happened in the 500 block of Glendale Avenue. Police had originally been called to the scene on reports of a man with a knife. When they arrived the man reportedly threatened the officer.

At some point during the altercation, she felt compelled to fire," Chief McManus said. "The suspect was struck in the upper torso and pronounced dead on the scene by EMS."

The officer who shot the man is a two-year veteran with the department. Chief McManus says she will be placed on administrative duty pending an investigation. None of the officers were injured.
