Tropical System in the Bay of Campeche Could Spread Rains into Texas

FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE:

  • A low pressure system was located over the southern Bay of Campeche Sunday morning. This system is expected to move slowly northwestward toward the coast of Mexico, and it could become a tropical cyclone before it moves inland in a day or two. An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the disturbance later today, if necessary.
  • There is a medium (60%) chance for tropical cyclone formation within the next 48 hours in the southwest Gulf of Mexico.
  • Regardless of development, tropical moisture could work into portions of South Central Texas Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing an increased chance for showers and thunderstorms.
  • Currently 1-2 inches of rainfall are forecast Tuesday and Wednesday near and east of I-35 and I-37. Rain chances and rainfall amounts are likely to change as Tuesday and Wednesday draw closer
