More 'Severe Storms' in Our Forecast

There is a potential for several rounds of strong to severe storms and heavy rains this week...

Threats & Impacts:

Tornadoes: No impacts today and Tuesday, potential impacts on Wednesday

Winds: 60 MPH today through Wednesday

Hail: 1 to 2 inches today and Tuesday, greater than 2 inches on Wednesday

Rainfall:  Average rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches this week, isolated totals of 4 to 8 inches, potentially higher

Timing and Overview:

A series of upper level disturbances along with a dryline on Wednesday and a cold front on Thursday will bring multiple periods of showers and thunderstorms this week into next weekend. For today, an impulse that resulted in a cluster of showers and thunderstorms that moved from the Rio Grande last night to the I-35/I-37 corridors early this morning. This impulse will generate showers and thunderstorms this afternoon into evening. There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds the main threats. There is also a marginal to slight risk of excessive rainfall which may cause flash flooding. The main threat areas are along and south of US Highway 90 and along and east of I-35. Looking ahead, there are chances of severe storms the remainder of this week into next weekend with the highest chances on Wednesday. Currently, there is a slight risk of severe storms across our entire area on Wednesday, however, this risk may increase in later outlooks. In addition to damaging winds, there is a potential of very large hail and isolated tornadoes, especially across the eastern Hill Country into Central Texas near the I-35 corridor.  Later in the week, the threat for severe storms decreases while the threat for heavy rains increases. Throughout the next several days, the heavy rains may cause renewed flash flooding and river flooding.
