First Half Winners of San Antonio's Safest Driver Announced

If you see  Brandon Cole in the lane next to you on the highway, you can rest assured, because he is the winner of the first half of the Safest Driver in San Antonio competition, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

He wins $500, as do Luis Gallo, who was named the Best Military Driver, and  Ted Konaires, who is the Least Distracted Driver.

“It’s nice to be acknowledged for my safe driving. It just gives me that much more confidence that there is something being done about the bad driving that’s being done on a daily basis by careless people," Cole said of his victory in the first half of the competition.

The Safest Driver is being determined by a special smart phone app, which was downloaded by some 13,300 people citywide.  It measures several factors ranging from speeding to driving while distracted to jackrabbit starts and rolling stops.

The second half of the San Antonio's Safest Driver is now underway.  The winner of the complete competition will be announced in early September.  That person will win the grand prize of $10,000.
