Sheriff, DEA, Announce Major Drug Raid

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration today arrested a west side man and seized a large quantity of heroin and numerous weapons, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The rain happened in the 399 hundred block of Bay Street, which is near Highway 90 and Gen. McMullen.

"It totals up to 4.3 kilograms of heroin, 5.6 kilograms methamphetimine, a quarter pound of cocaine, 20 grams of crack, seven firearms and three vehicles seized," Sheriff Javier Salazar said.  "Of course, the street value of the narcotics that we seized is in excess of a million dollars, and a large sum of cash that has not been counted, but we are bleieving it is tens of thousands of dollars."

Salazar identified the suspect as Jimmy Zavala, Jr.  He said more arrests are expected."We believe this is part of a larger operation," Salazar said.  "We are looking at exactly which route this took, if there are any cartel ties or if it is local organization, but we believe there are other organizations involved."

He said he goal is to 'disrupt the daily operations' of drug dealers.

"This was a big hit for us," he said.  "But the narcotics unit is continue to work with the DEA on this operation and others."

avala was described as a 'midlevel wholesale distributor,' and he was described as a 'poly drug distributor,' who deals in all different types of narcotics.
