A San Antonio man who was known as the 'Suitcase killer' was packed away with a lethal dose of drugs in the death chamber in Huntsville last night, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Rosendo Rodriguez was arrested at his mother's home in San Antonio in 2005 in connection with the rape and murder of a pregnant woman in Lubbock. She was murdered, and her body as stuffed into a suitcase and deposited in a dumpster.

"And after being arrested at his parents' home in San Antonio, where he was living at the time, he also confessed to killing 16 year old Joanna Rogers, also of Lubbock, and disposing of her body in the same way," Death Row spokesman Robert Hurst told News Radio 1200 WOAI.

Hurst says Rodriguez delivered a rambling, incoherent, ten minute 'last statement.'

"In which he asked for citizens to correspond with Death Row offenders, in which he advocated for the elimination of the death penalty in Texas and other capital punishment states, and he never apologized for the crimes he was convicted of."

Rodriguez is the fourth person to be executed in Texas in 2018.  Texas has now executed more offenders in less then three months of 2018 than were executed in the state in all of 2017.
