UPDATE: ATF Joins Deputies in Northwest Side Standoff

UPDATE: ATF on scene of northwest side standoff.The federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and firearms has joined Bexar County Sheriff's officers and San Antonio Police on the scene of a standoff in northwest Bexar County which started last night, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Depuites say they send a robot toward the house on Saddle Trail this morning, and the gunman inside the house shot the robot.

Sheriff's officials say two SWAT officers who were hit by bullet fragments during a shootout with the suspect early today are doing well and are not seriously injured.

Sheriff Javier Salazar says officers who went to the location, which is off Boerne Stage Road, to conduct a welfare check on a woman in her eighties, when they found a 62 year old man inside the house.

A SWAT team was called in but somebody inside the house opened fire, shooting at the deputies and hitting their shields.

Later, a man walked outside and started shooting at the deputies, then he opened fire on another group of deputies that tried to enter the house.  This time the bullets struck a propane tank and the fragments hit the deputies.

Officers are ringing the home.  So far, they don't know who is shooting at deputies, and are urging the people inside to contact authorities.
