Three Mile Stretch of Border Wall Construction up for Bid in Texas

It looks like they're ready to build The Wall in South Texas, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

A notice in the Federal Register seeks contractors to build 'three miles of border wall built along existing river levees on the Rio Grande.'

The contract will be worth between $25 and $100 million, but the request for proposals says any contract is dependent on the approval of funds by Congress.

Even though the notice does not indicate exactly where the three mile section of the border wall will be built on the Rio Grande, it is believed to reference land in the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge.

Opened in 1943, the refuge, which is in Hidalgo County, is home to several endangered species, including the Ocelot and several species of Bobcats, as well as tropical plants.

Homeland Security has said that it will build the wall in the Santa Ana Refuge first, because it is already federal government property, and no potentially lengthy condemnation proceedings would be necessary.
