Tech Will be Hot This Holiday

It's gonna be a high tech holiday, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Rick Kowalsky of the Consumer Technology Association tells News Radio 1200 WOAI fully 68% of holiday shoppers will purchase at least one tech item to place beneath the tree this season, with purchases ranging from phones to tablets to TVs to drones.

Kowalsky says while, with the possible exception of the iPhone X, there is nothing really new this holiday, the item driving people into the stores and e-retail sites is price.

"People are going to be looking at the 4K Ultra HD TV sets this year," he said.  "I was looking at some of the Black Friday ads, and the prices are crazy low."

He says LG's proprietary OLED screens, which are known for deep blacks and vivid colors, are selling for, in many cases, less than half of the sales price of last holiday.

He says even though there is little really knew in the smart phone and tablet market, the items will remain hot sellers this holiday.

A couple of items which are catching on as stocking stuffers include personal assistants like Google Voice, Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa.

And also, Kowalsky says shoppers are warming up to the new technology of virtual reality.

"They're getting really interested in seeing that experience and getting that virtual reality experience," he said.  "Everybody is anxious to try it out."He says, just like TVs, the technology for virtual reality and the sale price points have gotten to the point where a quality virtual reality experience is avaialble for a 'stocking stuffer' price.
