A woman in her twenties was stabbed today and her mother was severely injured when she tried to protect her daughter, in an assault at an apartment complex northwest of downtown early today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say a man wearing a black hoodie repeatedly stabbed the victim in the hallway of the Haven for Hope Apartments in the 700 block of North San Marcos Street.
This is not the homeless shelter, but an apartment across the street.Police say when the victim's mother came to her aid and tried to fight off the attacker, she was also stabbed.
The younger woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother is being treated at University Hospital, where she is in stable condition.
The suspect ran away. Police don't know what they motive for the attack was.
