A man was killed early today when he was hit by a train while he was walking along the Union Pacific railroad tracks that run outside the Ft. Sam Houston fence line on Binz-Engleman, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say the man was walking northbound on the edge of the railroad tracks about 12:30AM.  The engineer told officers that he sounded his horn, but the man made no attempt to move.  Police don't know if he may have been wearing headphones, which would have made it difficult for him to hear a train approaching from behind him in the dark.

The victim was in his late thirties or early forties.  No charges are expected to be filed in the case.
